Consumer Electronics Show 2010

7 - 10 January 2010

Las Vegas, NV

We went to the Consumer Electrons Show to see all the new toys coming out this year. Panasonic had one of the most anticipated exhibits, a 152 inch hi def plasma TV which was being used to demonstrate their new 3D system. This was the system used to make the movie Avatar. We were impressed with the quality of the image. Pansonic, in conjunction with one of the sattelite services, will be offering 3D for the home starting this March. The picture on the right is of one of the vehicles used to demonstrate a new audio system for cars.

The picture on the left is of another vehicle used to demonstrate a new audio system. We sat in several of the vehicles, but to be honest, they all sounded pretty much the same to us. The picture on the right is of the Volt, an electic car with sound, GPS, the ability to remotely control one's home, and other toys.

On the left is a side view of the Volt. On the right: the gamer section.

Lego chose the CES to launch it's new MMORPG. We found the concept of thousands of lego people making war on each other to be both humorous and disquieting.

There were lots of new games debuting, and of course, Mario.

On the lighter side, we spotted a forrest of hands, and an ad we thought only appeared on the back of old comic books.

Two old rivals, Disney and Nickelodean, were well represented.

As we circled back through the car section, one of us spotted the car on the left and fell in love. The robot on the right is the i-fairy, a big disappointment that remined us of Electro, the robot that was introduced at the 1939 World's Fair. More than 70 years after Electro, the I-fairy was smaller and solid-state, but did essentially the same things Electro did. We were not impressed.

We walked around taking random pictures to get the flavor of the Show.

Then we met this guy who told us we had to go over there.

Where we met this guy who said to keep going. Then we spoted yet another of the video teams from Best Buy that were all over the Show.

The video team was just another one of many, so we moved on. These young ladies said we had to go "that way." Then we met up with these guys who said to keep going. In the end we saw A new holographic touch screen that was impressive, some 3D games by Sony, and, as mentioned earlier, Pansonic's new 3D system. The two themes running through the show were 3D for the home, and more integration and control of existing systems.
